Greater Cabarrus Reading Association

Bridging teacher-student relationships is perhaps the most important component you can add to your pedagogy. Until students know how much you care, they will not care how much you know. So, if you have taken any of the suggestions I presented at the February meeting for the Greater Cabarrus Reading Association, and incorporated them into your pedagogy, what changes have you noticed in your students? For example, this year, I have had multiple students inquiring about taking my class again next year, when they are supposed to select a new Encore class. Also, I have students switching into my class from other classes, where in the past, they used to switch out of my class. These things are all because of my new focus on forming improved teacher-student relationships.
So, have you set up a social network for your classroom in order to build relationships with your students? Have you established blogging sites? If so, have they helped you connect with your students and in what ways? Share your experiences here. Or, did you use the Interest Inventory to get to better acquaint yourself with your students and their literary needs? Please feel free to share your successes with that strategy here also.
